MLM Home Business: Am I The Right Sort Of Person?

by admin on June 1, 2010

Most people who are sponsored into an MLM Home Business fail! In fact the figure is somewhere around 95 to 97% of people who join an MLM Home Business will fail to make more than $10 a month!  That is a very high percentage and hopefully over the next few years, this figure will come done considerably because of the internet.

So why do so many fail?  One of the major reasons is that people who work at their MLM Home Business offline are taught that they should approach EVERYONE they know and everyone they meet as they go through their lives to a business presentation.  The trouble with this is that many people just do not have the right mentality to run their own business.

The majority of people are going to be happy enough working 9-5 in a job.  It may be that they love their job or it may be that they don’t, but the bottom line is they would not be prepared to give up regular pay checks.  Running an MLM Home Business would be considered too far out of their comfort zone.

To my mind the people who are likely to succeed in an MLM/Network Marketing Home Business are the ones with a fire in their belly!  They need to be looking for something; maybe a different way of life.  They need to want more out of life than they are getting and to be prepared to put in the effort to get it.  And I don’t just mean money.  Although that is always good!

They must have a reason WHY they want to get involved that is so BIG, so powerful that nothing will stop them from achieving the results they want.

They need to be determined. MLM can be like the school of hard knocks!  You would need to be prepared to jump up again everytime you got knocked back.  Because believe me MLM is full of ups and downs.

And you would need persistence.  Because results do not come thick and fast when you first start in your MLM Home Business.  You need to go through a learning curve first, and then you need to work your business until you build momentum; only then will you start to see real results.

You would also need to have the right mindset to run an MLM Home Business.  You need to be clear and focused on your goals.  You need to discipline yourself to work on your business everyday. And you need to be prepared to realise when you are procrastinating and push yourself over the next hurdle.  If you have the right mindset, nothing will stop you!

And the last thing is ‘don’t give up‘!  So many people give up on their MLM Home Business before they reach their dreams.  Don’t listen to the dream stealers who say you will never do it.  Just do it and prove them wrong.

Just close your eyes for a minute or two and imagine yourself in that life that you desire.  Imagine you have already reached it.  What can you see?  What are you doing? If you can see it clearly in your mind, your mind will work towards achieving it.

Believe in yourself.  I do!

So, have you decided? Are you the right sort of person for an MLM Home Business? If so and you want to cut your learning curve down by half, check out the #1 Lead Generation System Sue uses to build her MLM Home Business on the internet!

Great way to give people a self-analysis on whether or not they fit the bill for success.

What's interesting about this 95% statistic is that it's the same for traditional businesses as well. about 95% of all businesses close within their first 5 years.

Your description of what it takes to succeed in MLM is exactly what it takes to succeed in ANYTHING!!
MLM just makes you freer than anything else!

  • Dewane Mutunga June 3, 2010 at 6:44 am

You hit it right on the nose! this is exactly what people need to hear. I think it all boils down to people being educated on what it takes to be successful and being persistent. If this happens I'm sure that 95% will drop drastically!

  • Sue Collier June 3, 2010 at 9:02 am

    Hi Paul,

Oh I didn't realise that the 95% statistic was true for all businesses! I will remember that for the next time someone throws that statistic at me!! :)

Yes you're right it does pretty much apply to anything you want to do.

    Thanks for your comments Paul.

Yes Dewane, I'm really looking forward to the percentage dropping!! And I know it will. The internet is a wonderful place :) Sue

Here's to 'upping the ante'… Due to the influx of rising entrepreneurs, I anticipate seeing a 70/30 within the next 3 decades. our leadership will bring be the cause of that ratio change.

  • Nelson Schroeder June 4, 2010 at 12:26 am

Right on Sue. You certainly hit the nail squarely. But MLM's the only way to get out of the box we put ourselves in with those 9-5 jobs. Good Blogging here.

    Hi Sue
Love the visualisation at the end. I think this is one of the keys to changing out mindset – to visualise yourself already doing whatever it is you want to become. I am never never going to give up!!!!!

I'll drink to that Paul!! :)

  • Sue Collier June 4, 2010 at 7:58 am

Thanks for your lovely comments Nelson! MLM is awesome, and more and more respected people are finally realising that!

  • Sue Collier June 4, 2010 at 8:03 am

Thanks Belinda. Visualisation is something I only really understood in the last year or so, but it makes complete sense and I use it regularly now!

I once heard someone describe never giving up as 'sticktoitivness'!! :)

Hello Sue, everything you say is right on the mark! Especially about the school of hard knocks…lol. But the fire in the belly is what gets us up and going toward our dream, which we must visualize daily. It's a process of personal growth. I will never stop!

    Hi Sue
Working “The Slight Edge” everyday over time will put your MLM business on track to success. Some people hit the wall the day after they sign up and if you look at their life they've made a habit out of quitting most everything they have started in life. Have a 100% why that comes from the inside (spirit) and not from the outside (service) will keep that fire going in your belly propelling you to success.
    Great post thanks for sharing!

Excellent post Sue! As you mentioned, you have to have the right mindset to own your own business, and need to have a WHY so big and powerful that nothing will stop you! It is work, and not always easy, yet I have found it can be so rewarding in many ways (more than money even) to be involved in this industry. You just have to be willing to stick with it no matter what. ;-) Christine

Sue, I think that we are cut from a different cloth and those of us who really want to succeed will do what you have suggested in your post. The fact is true that not many will succeed in this industry but the few who have that burning desire to do so. Thanks this was a great post.

  • Jacqueline McGinnis June 4, 2010 at 6:01 pm

You nailed it. In my opinion you listed all the main qualities one must have and continue to develop to be successful in any home-based business not just in network marketing.

I've own and run a home-based business for 10 years but only recently added network marketing as a stream of income. Anytime you work for yourself, you must have the characteristics you mention.

Way to lay it out there. Good job!

  • Val Wilcox June 4, 2010 at 11:41 pm

    Sue,
Anything that feeds your passion will work for you. Once you find your WHY for your life, the means to accomplish that will show up.
    Val :)

Thank you Lori! Sometimes it's hard to explain to people what it takes to succeed in this industry if they cannot feel it themselves. Lovely to 'meet' you!

  • Sue Collier June 6, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Exactly Christine; I agree there are other rewards. The personal development I have achieved is one such bonus! And the lovely people I have met too! :)
