I didn’t really understand LinkedIn when I first joined this social media site!  I didn’t feel it offered much opportunity in the way of generating leads for my business in the way that Facebook or Twitter does.  But slowly and surely LinkedIn has gone up in my estimation, not just because of the very high calibre of the large majority of  people who use LinkedIn.  Indeed the annual salary of the average LinkedIn user is $109.00, so there are many ‘big fish’ out there in LinkedIn.

If you are looking for a job, creating a profile with all your previous work experience and a smart profile photo could be a very wise move.  You can even upload your resume!  It is believed that 80% of companies looking for new personnel use social media sites to do this, the majority of them using LinkedIn.

If you wish to become known as a leader in your niche or industry there are several things you can do on LinkedIn to become known.  You can update your status or ‘share an update’ as it is known on LinkedIn everyday or as often as you can.  Once you have shared your update, you can click on ‘share again’, and share the same information with the groups you have joined.  Join as many groups as you want to within your niche.  This means that any information you share is being shown to every member of every group you are in, which can be a very large number of people, as well as everyone you are connected to.

You can become a ‘thought leader’ by creating your own group on LinkedIn within your industry and regularly sharing information and answering questions.  This will establish you as the ‘go to’ person for your industry, because your name and website will be there for everyone who joins the group to see.

Another way to become known is to answer questions in your niche.  Under the ‘more’ tab at the top of the page, you will find ‘answers’.  There you will find lots of questions from people in your network.  By answering these questions on a regular basis, you will be listed as a ‘Top Expert’, which of course will get you seen!

The best way to connect with alot of people on LinkedIn is to join the Open Networkers groups.  These are people who are willing to connect openly with large numbers of people.  Generally LinkedIn does not let you connect with just anyone in the way that say Facebook does.  You can only connect with someone you have done business with or a friend.  However, most of the Open Networkers offer their email address, so it is possible to connect with them using that.

If you want to be found in the search facility on LinkedIn, you need to ensure that you have your keywords in your profile.  You will need to have them in your title, your current and past work experience, your summary and in your specialities if you want to rank on the first page!

You hear it said all over the internet! ‘The Money Is In The List’. And many people still think that is true. But the money is not in the list. It’s in the relationship you have with the list!! Just think about it. When you open your email account up, whose emails do you read first? People who you are interested in. People who send you free stuff; valuable free information which you can use to build your business. Things that maybe solve a problem you are having.

If someone constantly sends you only links to products and never anything of value, you will either fail to read their email or unsubscribe. As many of us only get round to unsubscribing 3 or 4 times a year, this means alot of unread or unopened emails. If you are anything like me, you just delete alot of your emails unread. All you have seen is who they are from! That is incredible if you think about it. Just the name of the person who sent the email either gives you a warm feeling or sends you cold!
So how do you go about building a relationship with your list? There are several things you can do to persuade people to open your emails.

Connect with them on a friendlier level. Send them an email early on just inviting them to connect with you on your blog and on your social media sites such as Twitter or Facebook. On Facebook particularly they can see photos of you, see how you are interacting with others and get more of a personal feel for you. If you do videos, these are very good at getting people to feel that they ‘know’ you personally.

Don’t make any other offer when you send this email, just the connection. Definitely do not try to sell them anything!

Try branding your emails more so that they are recognisable every time they arrive in someones email inbox. Maybe use the header from your blog as a header for your email so they recognise your brand.

You could also have a small photo of you against your signature, so your recipient knows exactly who the email is from.

Don’t just pitch and sell to them everytime you email them. Everyone wants to receive information which will help them to solve a problem that they have. But if everytime they receive the info there is a sales pitch they will quickly tire of opening your emails. So sometime just offer free information that might help them, or a free ebook or helpful video.

Many of the top internet marketers I know believe the best way to get a prospect interested is to email them everyday. This way, they will definitely know your name and know how valuable you are to them. It will also mean that anyone who is not seriously interested will be fed up of the constant emails and will unsubscribe.

So remember, if you can get a prospect to know. like and trust you, by connecting more personally with them and by giving great value, you will have a customer for life.

PS  To Find Out The Secrets The Top Internet Marketers Use To Build Their Business Online!!

When you first open up your blog for business, you hope or expect lots of people to find it and leave you lots of comments and feedback.  Sadly, this rarely happens, unless you are a celebrity!  So you plug away, writing article after article wondering how other people manage to succeed in getting lots of comments when you are lucky to get one!  So you cheat a bit and retweet your own post a few times and ask your friends to retweet it too!

But unless you get very good, very quickly you are not going to get many comments.  I tried putting the odd comment on other people’s blogs, but rarely got any reciprocation!  Then I started to hear about syndication!  I looked into it and discovered that people were getting together into little groups to leave a little ‘love’ on each others blogs and other content all over the internet!  Wow, I thought, great idea!

I looked into one system that everyone was talking about, but decided against paying to have someone read my articles.  They aren’t THAT bad!!  Then I joined a forum called ThatMLMBeat!! And started to hear about two syndication groups that were in the process of joining together!  And you could join FREE!

So with some trepidation, I joined their ranks.  It all seemed simple enough!  You were put in a particular colour group each week; around 10 to a group.  Each person puts their own details on the system, their social media sites and their blog.  Then each day of the week, Monday to Friday only (which suits me) you syndicate a couple of people out of your group.

You comment on their blog, you like them on Facebook, add them on Linkedin, watch their videos on YouTube or whatever.  Then one day a week, they all come to see your work and suddenly your comments start to rise.  You get more friends on your social media sites and more retweets!!  Wow, you have got to love that!

And another great thing is that if people don’t do the syndicating they are meant to do, they slowly fall down the charts and then fall off the end.  So they no longer get syndicated!  If you do not feel that the article you are reading is up to standard, you do not have to comment or syndicate.  That keeps standards up!

The benefits of syndication go well beyond the extra traffic I am getting on my sites! I always found it difficult to comment on other people’s work.  Probably scared of saying something that someone didn’t like!  Now, I am typing a comment before I even put my mind in gear!!  So that’s great.  Syndicating also keeps me on my toes! I know by Sunday usually what day people are going to syndicate me, so I work on making sure there is something new for everyone to read or listen to!  Which again is always good for the search engines.  Regularly updating your blog gets you higher up the rankings!

And another thing!  Before I started syndicating, I had somewhat lost interest in Facebook, which considering the numbers of people logging on everyday, was a bit like business suicide!  I found it difficult to know what to say.  Well syndicating lots of other peoples blogs has put an end to all that.  I have a plethora of interesting material to put out on Facebook, so my name is appearing on the news stream regularly.  I’m rocking Facebook again!

And I am meeting some incredible people and finding out more awesome stuff everyday! I have to admit my first thought was ‘will this be worth the effort of reading all these peoples blogs??’  Well I have to tell you that ‘yes’ absolutely it is worth every minute I spend syndicating.

Do you use a Dream Book, or a dream board to help you visualise WHY you are doing your home based business? Many people (and I was guilty of this too when I first started my business) think that a dream book or board is a load of baloney!  I found it hard to believe that sticking pictures of a new car or a holiday I wanted would help my business in any way.  I would just nod along when anyone told us to go and make a dream book, and then just not bother.

Until one day at a home business meeting, when a lady bought in her dream book and showed us through it.  She was so passionate about what she wanted from the future, that it shone from her.  Her eyes were alight when she showed us pictures of her family and how she intended to help them once she had the money to do so.  And I realised at that moment that this lady would definitely succeed in her home based business.  You could just tell from the passion she had when she talked about her dreams.  You knew nothing would ever stand in the way of her success.  And that planted a seed (just like my last article!!) in my head.

A short while later it was my birthday and I asked one of my daughters to buy me a beautiful deep pink book that I had seen that even tied with a ribbon.  I didn’t go out looking for a book; I hadn’t even realised that I intended to start a dream book,but while I was browsing around a shop I saw it and thought straight away – my dream book!  Amazing how the seed of an idea can be planted in your head, and start to grow sometime later!

So a few weeks later I started thinking about what I wanted to put in my book.  I knew my main why was to get my partner Alan out of his job.  So I started with pictures of him, and how his life would look once he could give up working!  But as I thought more about it, I realised that I already had a good idea of what I wanted to see in my dream book. It expanded my mind and my thinking – I was actually designing my future life.

My dream book is definitely a work in progress; when I started it everything was a dream.  Now some of my dreams have started to appear in my life and I find I have more goals to add to my book.  Like grandchildren for instance and how I can help them in the future!  And I am remembering long forgotten dreams or wishes I had and perhaps gave up on earlier in my life.  Now I am bringing out these dreams, re-examining them and adding them to my dream book if I still want them.

And don’t make the mistake of thinking its all about a new car, house or holiday.  My dream book is full of how I can help my family, friends and charities. About how I can lead a better, more fulfilled and healthier life! It’s not all about money, but thats nice too!

If you have been guilty of dismissing the idea of a dream book or board, think again! Because you have pictures of your goals clearly there in front of you, you mind accepts that and leads you towards your dreams.  I know because it is slowly happening to me!!  If you can visualise what you want out of life you can get it! Make it real!

others buy links well I wouldn’t spend it,

keyword stuffing is not a good practice,

if you doing that you’ll get stuck like a cactus,

do it the right way and be enthusiastic,

Have I gone crazy?  Maybe!! But I will tell you why I think you need to become a farmer in your Network Marketing Opportunity.  I heard someone say something the other day about planting seeds and getting the results six months down the line and it made me think that those of us in a Network Marketer Opportunity have alot in common with Farmers!!  Because, just like Farmers plant seeds in the fields, we drop out little nuggets of information (or seeds) to people.  Then because we have put a thought into their head, it slowly begins to take root, blossom and grow, just like the Farmer’s seed!!

So many people are suffering with money worries at this time.  They are rushing around, so busy worrying about their dire money situation that they have probably not even given a thought to finding a second income stream.  Then we come along and perhaps tell them what we are doing, or ask them to take a look and that’s it, we have planted a seed.  They begin to think about the possibilities, and how much better their life would be if only they could earn a few hundred extra each month!

But just as Jim Rohn said on his Building Your Network Marketing Business CD; ‘some seeds will fall on stony ground’.  Because some people just do not have an open mind with which to view our opportunity.  And some people would find Network Marketing beyond their comfort zone and be unwilling to step up to the mark.  Which is fine of course, because these are the people who, if you did manage to sign them up, would only last a few months.

And of course, some seeds will start to grow, but then get choked by weeds and die!  These are the people who will join your opportunity, but then listen to their next door neighbour’s uncle’s sister, who had a ‘bad’ experience once with MLM and decide to give up!

But of course some seeds will fall on good soil, and be nourished and grow strong and healthy!  And these are the seeds that we are interested in.  Because they will become the stars in your business.  They are the reason we go around planting seeds at all!

So remember when you talk to people, you are planting ‘seeds’!  Because just imagine if you spoke to someone about your opportunity and they said they were not interested because they were happy in their job, or because they did not have any money worries.  What if, 4 months down the road, they were made redundant, lost their job, or got sick?  Maybe at that time, that little seed that you planted in their mind would begin to take root and grow!

Planting has always fascinated me.  To think that you could take a tiny dried up seed and have it grow into a green, healthy plant is pretty incredible when you think about it.  So imagine planting a tiny thought into someone’s head, and it blossoming and growing into a strong, thriving business!  Now imagine a whole field full of plants, growing strong and healthy!

Let’s keep on planting those seeds!!

This weekend just passed I attended the Internet Millionaire’s Summit in London, hosted by George Brown and BA Wealth. For those of you who do not know George, perhaps you know of Google Sniper or Traffic Ultimatum, both of which he wrote.  He is a 19 year old millionaire from England, who left school at 17 and started work moving furniture!!  Fast forward two years and George is living the dream; travelling when he wants, where he wants.

All because of the internet! George is a softly spoken, friendly, likeable 19 year old.  He is just someone who wasn’t happy with what he was doing in life and used the internet to change it.  And by him doing that, he is showing you, me and anyone who has the strength of character to DO something about their life, that it is achievable. Even if you don’t want to be a millionaire, but just want to pay your mortgage or your car payments, this could change your life!

And George wasn’t the youngest at the Summit earning money online.  One 15 year old girl spoke for a few minutes about the blog she had created about homework.  She had incorporated some adverts, and was making some money online!!  Some of these young people are going to be earning more than their mother and father put together, because it is all possible on the internet!!

At the other end of the spectrum, there were a plethora of 50, 60 and even 70 year old men at the Summit, many of whom already had websites up and running and had come to get the knowledge to make more money with them. And some women too!  Not so many for some reason.  Come on ladies, let’s not let the side down.  You can make serious money on the internet.  Just start learning how!  You need to be proactive!  Age, gender, race, religion, profession; none of that matters online.  You are just yourself.

So what have I learned at this Summit?  So much that it is keeping me awake at night! I have learned that it is amazing to go to events!  The people you meet for a start. We met so many friendly, open, excited and optimistic people who were interested in talking to us!

I have learned that it is not about your list, it’s about the relationship you build with your list!  That’s a biggy for me and definitely something I will be spending more time on; putting more of myself into my emails.

I learned that I am doing some things right.  I learned that some things I am doing will just need a tweak!!  And I learned that some ways of driving traffic I thought were useless are in fact incredible!  I also learned that as soon as we know something new on the internet, we should teach it to others!

The speakers were inspirational.  All of them!  From the energising, enthusiastic ‘little Chinese man’ (his words!), Tom Hua, “if a little Chinese man can do it, so can you” to the vivacious, glittery(!) awe-inspiring Donna Fox and every single one in between, they all gave us tremendous value; so much information that we can use immediately to build an income online, so that we can follow in their footsteps!

So would I do it all again? Absolutely!  The long journey by train, the hectic underground, the carrying of suitcases up and down hundreds of steps?  The 3 long days of information cramming; the sore fingers from writing it all down?  The sore behind from sitting for so long; the missed breakfasts?  The utter exhaustion on the return train journey?

Yes, it was all completely worth it; this stuff is life changing!  Thanks so much George Brown!

Email Marketing is a brilliant method of marketing your business if you get it right. Of course everyone’s take on getting it right is different. To be honest I had never put much thought into my Email Marketing until recently. I seem to have suddenly been shown the errors of my ways, and I do mean errors, plural, because I have been making several apparently!

Oh well, as Robert F Kennedy once said “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly“. So I have failed, and now I am going to achieve!!

And I know you are waiting for the number 1 secret, so here it is!

I always thought that your subject headline is what would get your email opened.  But it’s not!  But what really does it is You! Your Brand! If you are building your social media or online presence properly, your name should start to ring bells to the people you are sending emails to. Because if they have seen your name and picture constantly on Facebook or Twitter over a few weeks or months, when they receive an email from you, they will recognise your name, probably even picture you in their mind, and they will want to open your email because they feel they know you, like you and trust you! This is another reason why you need to brand yourself!

You could use the header from your blog at the top of your emails so people recognise your ‘brand’. You could have your own signature from mylivesignature.com which will help to brand you. And you must make sure you inject some of your own personality into your emails.

Try to keep your emails light; don’t get to heavy. Make sure you have plenty of new paragraphs. Look at your finished email. Would you read it? If you have one solid chunk of text it may look boring and then it won’t get read! And try to keep it reasonably brief.

I have had several emails recently where the writer has just used a short line of writing, making a small column down the left hand side of the page and I must admit these do seem easier to read! And remember to put the important bits in bold or italics so they stand out! Because there is so much information on the internet nowadays that we are all learning to ‘scan’ read. And if the important bits don’t standout, they will be missed!

Recently I had a complaint from someone on my list complaining about me sending them information. They had obviously opted-in for some training I offered, not realising that they would in fact be getting emails from me once they had opted-in. My answer to this was to put a disclaimer at the TOP of my emails, saying that they were receiving my emails because they had opted-in on one of my sites, and if they did not wish to receive help in building their online business, they could opt-out easily at the bottom of the page!

I panicked a little when I sent this out the first time, but actually only got a couple of people opting-out and actually got more click-throughs than usual. Probably because I was making it clear what the emails were about and injecting a little bit of my personality into it. I was actually saying, if you don’t want my emails, fine, no problem, goodbye!!

Remember you are sending emails to communicate with your list. You must be giving value to your potential buyers before they will become customers. Give them information that will help them, tips, how to’s, special offers, in fact anything that will bring them value. Consider what they are searching for and try to help them in their quest, and you will become invaluable to them.

Remember, people only do business with people they know, like and trust!!

Network Marketing or Multilevel Marketing has changed! Not everyone realises this yet, but Network Marketing is evolving and changing for the better.  And the first thing to change will be the 97% failure rate.  Because the old school outdated methods of recruiting people into your Network Marketing business are slowly being replaced by the new age of MLM which is marketing your business online.

Now don’t get me wrong. This is not something that will happen overnight, but it is happening right now at this minute.  Every minute of every day someone is coming online for the first time to search for a way to resurrect their ailing Network Marketing business.  And what they will find once they look hard enough will be a revelation to them, and the turning point of their Network Marketing business!

Because they will realise that they can actually build their business rapidly once they have learned what it takes!  The number of people that distributors recruit online is far higher than the numbers recuited by using old style methods.  So cheques will be higher.  And that percentage will begin to fall!

Of course, just like in any business, there will still be a failure rate.  Not everyone will want to work online, and not everyone will put in the effort it requires.  Because there is a learning curve.  When I first came online, I had no idea what most people were talking about!  Autoresponders, hosting and webinars?!  It was like some sort of parallel world!  But several months down the road, it all makes complete sense, and I am learning more everyday!

Network Marketing Companies are going to have to invest in these changes too! Because anyone who begins to market their business online is going to want to be able to sign up reps online.  They are going to want capture pages to get peoples name and email or phone details.  They will also want a site that does the recruiting for them to a certain extent; where they can send their prospects 24/7 to watch videos or read information on their company.

Because there are now people who are signing up to a Network Marketing company online without ever having spoken to a distributor! And any company who does not have a website up and running to recruit someone without them speaking to a rep, is going to be missing out big time!  Because if someone is determined to find an MLM company today, they will go to one they can find online.

So for now the old school methods are still being taught everyday.  But eventually, as those of us who work online get out and about in our communities, we will help and educate those who use these old methods, and more and more people will come online to market their business.

Of course, Network Marketing will also still be done offline as well, but once the two methods are fused together, I believe this industry will reach new heights. It has already changed in so many ways.  It is now a much more recognised way of making money. So many famous entrepreneurs are now joining an MLM company or starting their own, that the non-believers are hard pressed to find bad things to say about Network Marketing nowadays!

Oh yes, Network Marketing has changed!!  Big time!
