This morning I went on Facebook and had a few new friend requests as usual.  I decided to deal them straight away.  I accepted the first two, then looked at the third one, who had written quite alot by Facebook standards.  Wow, it was from Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad amongst other things.  Doesn’t it make you realise the power of Social Media!  Robert Kiyosaki requested me as a friend!! Amazing. Yes, I’m am sure I am not the only one, but doesn’t it just amaze you that you can connect with just about anyone on Social Media sites.

It would have been hard to imagine being able to chat on the internet with anyone famous a few years ago.  My daughter spoke to Dawn French a few months ago on Twitter! Incredible.  So are you using Social Media in your business? And if not why not?  Robert Kiyosaki is in his 60’s but he is embracing the internet and modern ways of doing business.  He actually asked me to join his fan page, and offered me an ebook he has written for $5 instead of $65.  Well of course I grabbed it; who wouldnt?

Because readers are leaders, and leaders are readers!!

And anything written by Robert Kiyosaki  is outstanding so I cannot wait to read it!

So what, I hear you say.  Well what made Robert choose Facebook to spread the word about his new ebook??  Because Facebook is totally FREE!  He knows that because his name is well known he can get extraordinary exposure for this ebook, just by creating a presence on Facebook.  And it WILL go viral.  Because Facebook is the second most visited site on the internet now; everyone reads each others pages and it will spread like wildfire!!

So if you have a business and you are not promoting that business on Facebook, you are missing out on some spectacular, instant free advertising.  More and more internet marketers are jumping onto the bandwagon and advertising their business for free on Facebook.  Start your own group, give away free information, advice or tips on your area of business.  Invite people to join.  Add other people as friends like Robert did.  And just see the results you get back.

But in doing that, don’t force other people to look.  Just a friendly word to them about what you are offering, nothing heavy. That is definitely the way to get people interested.  Don’t force your business down people’s throats, you will just be avoided as a spammer.  If you give value, you will get people’s interest.

Be like Robert Kiyosaki, embrace change in your life.

This tip in the series ‘What are the MLM basics for online marketing’ is all about YOU.  Because when you come online to market your MLM business, you don’t actually market your business, you market YOU. Online we use Attraction Marketing to attract leads to us rather than the outdated methods of contacting our family and friends.  To understand Attraction Marketing, you need to read Mike Dillard’s book ‘Magnetic Sponsoring’.  Mike will explain to you the whole concept of Attraction Marketing, so you can understand how to position yourself.

In learning the MLM basics for online marketing, branding yourself is one of the most important and fundamental things you need to do.  Those who fail to do this and start to pitch their business to everyone they know and plaster pictures of their juice all over will end up with very few friends on the social sites.  People hate being sold to, but they love to buy.  They just want the freedom to choose what they buy.

So forget everything you were taught in the old school of MLM, and start ‘branding yourself’.  This may sound strange or uncomfortable at first; you may want to hide behind your brand.  But eventually you will discover that everyone who is marketing online, irrespective of age or gender is marketing this way.  People buy from people they know, like and trust.  So you need to be seen and you need to connect with people.

The way to do that is to be valuable to people.  Do not try to pitch you business, but instead offer any help you can give.  Try to always give value.  You may worry you have nothing to give, but you give away information.  As you start to learn about marketing on the internet, you share it with others.  This starts to brand you as a leader or a trainer.  It also reinforces what you have just learnt, because you are writing about it or doing a video about it.

You also need to consider your brand when you buy domain names for your websites.  Your main website or capture page is usually something with MLM in it, and is your brand, like mine is PrimeMLMTraffic.  You need to put some thought and perhaps some research into the name, and see what is available.

For your blog, most people use their own name.  This is fine if you have an unusual name, but if your name is more popular, it may not be available.  In this case you would add something to it, such as WhoIs….. or WorkWith….  You need to get your name out there as much as possible, so think about every site (such as Facebook or Twitter) you join and try to incorporate your name in your site name.

All this will help you to begin branding, ‘YOU INC’!

This is Tip 2 in the article series ‘What Are The MLM Basics For Marketing Online’.  The first tip was that you need a system in order to market your business online.  Without a system you would be spending a great deal of time and money trying to work out what to do.  The next MLM Basics For Marketing Online Tip is also a biggy!  Once you have a system in place, you need to get some Training!  This is the biggest problem in Network Marketing.  Although it is called ‘marketing‘, no-one give you any marketing training.  And when you bring your business online, it is all about the marketing.

So where do you go for training?  Well if you took tip number 1, getting a system, you would now have access to training.  Without the system, you could maybe try to find a mentor online who would be willing to give up his time to coach you.  Otherwise you would have to learn from your mistakes, just like a huge number of people do online.  The trouble with this is that you will probably do what you were taught offline and constantly spew out your information about your business.  This is the way the amateur networkers work.  It leads to people removing you from their lists of friends, because they are fed up of being sold to.

Training is hugely important for marketing on the internet. 

If you consider that you would have to be trained for any new job, then it is just the same on the internet.  You are very unlikely to know exactly what to do on your first day online.  Everything you have been taught about the ‘old school’ methods of Network Marketing does NOT work online! On the internet we use Attraction Marketing to generate leads. We do not chase prospects around, we do not cold call anyone and we do not pester people as they go about their work.  Prospects come to us, because they are attracted to us, not the other way round.

The system I use, Lead System Pro, has an unbelievable amount of training in the back office. 

In fact one of the trainings, on Facebook marketing, is so popular that it attracts hundreds of people everyday to find out about our system!  Because marketing on Facebook is so popular, and so many people are joining Facebook everyday, anyone with a business wants to find out how to market there.  The Article Marketing training is also very highly sought after.

As well as trainings on all the social media sites, you will also need training about posting adverts, putting up banner adverts, how to do paid marketing such as pay-per-click and how to actually use Attraction Marketing.  Once you have studied some of the ways to attract leads, you can start to generate leads into your system everyday.  The best thing to do when you are just starting is to learn to master just one or two methods of lead generation.  When you are getting 10-20 leads a day from your efforts, you can continue to do that method, but also get some training on another method and stick at that until you have mastered that one too.

Eventually you will have built up several different ways to attract leads into your business.  But all this takes time.  Do not give up after a month or two, because it does take time to understand marketing online completely.  You may feel that you are doing everything you have been taught, but you are not getting the results you hoped for.  It could just be one little tweak that makes all the difference.  Just go over the training again, and see if you can pick up something you may have missed the first time. 

And then just keep going!

Prepaid Legal Leads can be difficult to find in your warm market.  Although your family and friends may be interested in getting legal cover, they are unlikely to want to join the business unless they are very business minded or entrepreneurial.  Once the warm market is exhausted, the options for generating Prepaid Legal Leads have always been buying leads or approaching your cold market.

Prepaid Legal is one of the oldest, most well established and successful Network Marketing companies around, but it has one downfall.  By not using the internet to help their associates generate Prepaid Legal leads, they will always lose associates who are discouraged by not enrolling people into their business.   Once the associates have approached their warm market about the business, they will need to go out and find other people to talk to.

Prepaid Legal actually became a Network Marketing company in 1983, but the company really started in 1969 when the founder of the company, Harland C Stonecipher was involved in a car accident, which left him with legal bills.  Prepaid Legal has over 1.5 million associates.  In the last quarter of 2009, the number of associates joining this company rose by 89.4% on the previous year!  Of course, more people do join Network Marketing companies in a recession, but even allowing for that, that percentage is incredible.

For around $20 a month, you get access to their lawyers for your legal problems.  Some companies purchase this protection and give it to their employees as an additional benefit.

Prepaid Legal encourages associates to use ‘Old School’ methods of prospecting such as approaching your family and friends and the three foot rule.  Sadly few Network Marketing companies have an online system to teach their associates how to find qualified leads.  Some people try buying ‘Legal leads’ but the majority of these leads are old, or have been used several times already.  They rarely work and are usually not targeted.

The modern way to generate Prepaid Legal leads is to use a system online which shows you step by step how to market and how to set up your own attraction marketing system to magnetically draw leads to you without using the out-dated methods usually associated with Network Marketing.  This means you will have access to far more people using the internet, because you are connecting with people all over the world, rather than just in your local area.

Very few Network Marketing companies teach their associates how to market their businesses, despite it being called Network “Marketing”!  Without marketing skills, people get easily discouraged and then leave the business.  However this does not happen if you have a system, because as long as you are prepared to work hard and study hard, you will have the principles by which to build a massive business.

I myself have only been marketing online for a few months, but can generate leads everyday, because I am learning the principles of attraction marketing from the system I belong to.  Many of the methods I use are free or cost very little money although there are some paid methods which we learn as well.  I have generated more leads online in a few months than I ever did in 6 years of marketing offline!!

Do you want to know an MLM Secret??  Want to know why no-one is  visiting your company website?? 

When my network marketing company finally got on the internet and gave us all a website, we were so excited.  We knew everyone made money on the internet, and we thought, wow, this will transform our MLM business!  We expected lots of customers to ‘come across’ our website on the internet, and prepared ourselves for an upsurge in business!  We even paid for a recruiting website ourselves, which we thought may get us a trickle of interested leads.

Traffic to go to our website never really entered our head.  I suppose we thought that people would accidentally find our site and be so interested they could not help themselves but to sign up or buy products!  Obviously we were giving our several hundred cards a week too, with the details of our sites on, so we were sure we would have results.  And we did.  Yes, at least 5 leads filled in their details on our site.  Unfortunately three of them were spam, as we now call it; idiots we called them at the time.  And the other two were unqualified people who thought we were in the ‘get rich quick’ brigade!

Now we know the secret MLM tip! Several years on, and with so much more experience of working on the internet, I regard these early attempts at internet marketing with a smile.  We knew so little.  Nowadays I find it amusing that Network Marketing companies still give out these lovely little replicated websites to their distributors.  I understand completely that it is their way of holding on to the content of these websites.  Obviously they do not want to be taken to court for their distributors over-zealous descriptions of their products benefits!

So my question to all you who are in MLM now is this:

 Do you realise that your company website is a waste of time? 

And do you know that you need to have your own website or at least a capture page, if you want to sponsor reps online?  The problem is that search engines, such as Google, hate company websites because there are so many of them all over the internet and they all have the same information.  Therefore it will not rank them, so they never show up on the first page, where people might click on the link and visit your site.  Google likes webpages to have original content, and it likes it to change regularly. Company websites are stagnant.  They have no new content, so will not rank highly.

Therefore if you are fishing around on the internet now, wondering how some people manage to sponsor other people online; your company website is not the answer.  You need to learn how to set up a capture page to get peoples details, how to attract them to you in the first place, what to do with them once you have them, and how to get them to join your business.  All in all, you need a system to follow, unless you have a mentor who will show you it all, step by step.  Because believe me, there is a pretty steep learning curve.  But it is well worth the effort, because it knocks offline prospecting into touch!

If this is your first year in Network Marketing you need to make it count!  Because this business is traditionally offered to people who have little or no business experience, your first year in Network Marketing can be extremely difficult.  You are expected to get your head round an unfamiliar compensation plan, which can be hard to understand.  You need to write out a list of 100 people and approach them, something which is not within the comfort zone of the majority of people.

SOME  SUGGESTIONS TO HELP YOU

1.  Work on your Why.  If this is your first year in Network Marketing, you will of course already have a Why, but make sure it is big enough.  Often people come into MLM with a why, but not a very big one, because they have forgotten how to dream BIG.  You need to work on your why; maybe make a dream book, or dream board.  This is just cuttings, or photos of things which you want in your future.  These do not necessarily have to be physical items, such as a big car, but also things like having a wonderful group of friends or living in a different country or area.  Your Why needs to be tied to emotion, so that when you feel  low, you can remember why you are doing this business and  what you actually want your business to achieve.

2.  Understand that Network Marketing is full of ups and downs.  You need to stay positive when you go through the downs.  Remember that everyone, in any MLM business, goes through the same thing.  Make sure you have someone to talk to when you are low, or something to read that you know will lift your spirits.  And focus as much as possible on the good things.

3.  Understand that your family and friends will probably not share your passion for the business model of Network Marketing.  This is something which I feel many business owners are surprised at when they first enter this arena.  If you ‘get‘ network marketing and realise the potential, you find it hard to understand when other people do not get it, and do not want to be part of it.  It becomes a sort of obsession to try to make them understand.  The trouble is that if they are not business minded, they will not want to get it.  Remember, many people are not prepared to get out of their comfort zones.

4.  Ensure that you do some Personal Development everyday.  Just 15 to 20 minutes of reading a book on the industry, and there are lots and lots of books around, will REALLY make a difference to how much you know.  This will help you to become a leader, because you can share what you learn to help your downline,  and this will ensure people see you as a teacher or trainer.

WHAT IF I’M  STILL NOT GETTING ANYWHERE??

If your initial excitement has burnt out and you are hanging precariously by your finger-tips onto your business, you need to consider dragging your business into the 21st Century and taking it online!  If you still have your Why but are finding it more and more difficult to find prospects, and you have run out of warm market, come online and join us.  You will discover that instead of just your local area, you have the whole world as prospects!

Are you building an MLM home business? If so, are you using social media sites for your business?  Facebook, Twitter, MySpace?  Over 350 million people are on Facebook alone!!  And almost half of them go on everyday.  That’s an incredible number of people.  And that’s just one social media site.  It is like a new community. Instead of us all spending time with our neighbours, we spend time online talking to our counterparts all over the world.

Social media has opened the doors to connecting with people you could not have connected with in the past.  This has had massive repercussions on the MLM industry, as it is now possible to enrol people into your Network Marketing business on the internet, without ever having met the person before!  MLM is now in the information age, with business owners showcasing their opportunities in videos and webinars which can be seen all over the world.  Instead of having a home meeting with around a dozen people, you could be showing your presentation to thousands at a time.

But we all also move around in our home community as well, so it is important to still be able to recruit people locally too.  We still go to the local shops, to the local garage, the hairdressers etc.  And social media has given us a brilliant way of reaching out to people we meet locally!  If your business is mainly online nowadays, it can be difficult to mesh the two together.  So if you meet someone in the local shops, and want to talk to them about our business, but don’t want to launch into presentation mode (as we would have done in the past!!) we now have the answer!

Quite simply, the answer is to have our social media contact details on our business cards!  So if you have had a chat with someone, and in your mind you are thinking, ‘they would be great at this business’, it is quite simple to say “I’ve really enjoyed talking to you, are you on Facebook or Twitter?  Lets keep in touch!”  And then give them your business card.   Its a friendly way to stay in touch with them, and once they become friends on Facebook (or other social media site) you can connect with them and slowly introduce the idea of your business to them!

I have already used this idea with someone who showed an interest in what I was doing online, and it works!  Because it’s laid back and not pushy.

More and more Network Marketing companies are using the internet to grow their business.  Those that are slow to implement the internet are already lagging behind. Because if you have someone from the other side of the world who really wants to join your business and it can’t be done online, that’s pretty much it. Posting application forms half way across the world is really not an option.  But for those MLM companies who have it all ready on the internet, this is not a problem.

You can sign up online, take trainings online or over the telephone or use skype.  And with the help of social media, you can now comfortably talk to anyone who lives locally.  The best of both worlds!

I’ve got a bad reputation at home at the moment.   My family complain, albeit good-naturedly, that I am on the computer when they get up in the morning, and I am on the computer when they go to bed at night.  If they want to use the computer, they ask me nowadays, and I give them a time-slot when they can use it.   I’m sure they find it amusing that their Mother goes online more than they do, and particularly goes on all the social media sites more than them

I live in England, so I may also be watching webinars in the middle of the night, so can occasionally be found up in my pyjamas at 2am on the computer.  This is hard work.  Time goes so quickly on the internet, and I am fascinated in what I am doing, so I forget to eat,  take exercise or indeed cook meals, sometimes!!

So why am I working such long days?

 Because I am building my home based Network Marketing business!!

 Do I intend to always work such long days?   No, I am working hard now, so that eventually I can work from anywhere in the world whilst I am travelling around.   Something which I intend to be doing alot over the next few years.

What so many people in this business seem to forget is that this business is called NetWORK Marketing! 

Not NetPLAY or NetMakeABitOfEffort!

We need to remember that you have to put some WORK into the equation.   People are not going to flock to you if you make no attempt to connect with them or if you do not let them know you are here.  You need to be marketing yourself, giving valuable information to people and helping others to succeed in the industry.  You need to be writing articles and doing videos and sending out emails.  And yes you need to be on the social media sites, being seen and giving value.

 So many people get involved because their up-line sell them on the residual income in MLM.  But guess what??  You actually have to put in the WORK first!

Residual income doesn’t kick in at the beginning.   First you have to WORK at your business; put other people in your down-line.  When you have a business that if you take a week off and come back, to find that your business has GROWN whilst you were away – that is when you can slow down.  MLM is NOT about getting rich quickly.   It can offer a fantastic lifestyle, but only to those with determination and grit, who get on with the job in hand and don’t let anything stand in their way.  Those who WORK!

I, for one, would not want anyone in my down-line who is not prepared to put in the effort.  The ‘I’ll give it 90 days’ syndrome does not interest me.  I am in it for the long haul!  I am prepared to put in the effort.  I know it will be worth it for the sense of achievement alone.  And the money may come in handy  for the grandkids, when they appear….

If you are in a Network Marketing business, are you still focusing on your warm market ?  Chasing  your family and friends and discovering that they do not actually want to join you?  That they do not share you dreams and desires?   This has been the normal way to begin a Network Marketing business for many years.  However in the 21st Century, cold market is becoming more and more important.

Cold market prospects are not tied to you in any way, they have never met you before.  When they come online they are looking for certain things and  can now ’shop around’ to find a leader who they believe can help them.  This means that they may not join you, even if they like your opportunity; they may prefer someone else. People are interested in YOU and what you can do for them, so it is not necessary to sell your Network Marketing opportunity to them.

They are generally  looking for several  things:

a) A Leader

b) Training

c) A Marketing System

d) A Good Team

 And this is where you can help them.  If you are positioned online as a leader, you can offer them the training and the system they require and show them that you are building a strong and successful  team.  97% of Network Marketers fail, so if you can address the main reasons that they fail, you will be helping to improve this percentage.  These are the two main reasons for failure:

1)  Lack of leads to talk to

2)  Lack of cashflow for marketing

Lack of Leads

Family and friends are no longer  enough, the new Network Marketer  has to learn marketing.  Internet Marketing is cheaper,  much faster and you can reach a global market.   People who have started a Network Marketing business in every corner of the world are reaching out to find the answers to their problems on the internet.   Even if they still want to do some marketing offline, it is possible to reach some local people online and arrange to meet them.

Lack of Cash

You cannot make alot of money upfront in MLM.  80% of the payout in Network Marketing is residual income, which does not kick in at the beginning.  This is when so many people give up on their business, because they cannot make enough money at the beginning of their MLM career and they cannot afford to continue.  They need to make some money upfront in order to pay for more marketing.

90% of your leads will not join your business.  This means you need to make money from this 90%, otherwise they are being wasted.  This is where a Funded Proposal comes in.  You offer your leads affiliate products, products you do not own, in order to receive a commission on the sale.  These are not just any old products, these are legitimate products to help the lead with their internet business.  You may suggest that they use a certain autoresponder, which is something they must have in order to start internet marketing, and when they decide to purchase this autoresponder, you get paid a percentage of the sale.  This is perfectly acceptable online as the majority of internet marketers will only recommend something which they are using successfully themselves.

So to start using your cold market online, instead of chasing your family and friends, you will need to do three things:

1) Use Attraction Marketing

2) Learn Internet Marketing

3) Apply a Funded Proposal

You can do this your own way, or use a system which is all of these things incorporated in an easily duplicatable system, using your own MLM business as your Primary Business.  This way,  everything is ready for you and you can make a leap forward in your education, instead of ploughing through mounds and mounds of different information to try to find out what you should be doing.
